Welcome to the Technical Exchange Meeting (TEM)!
WFM OptOut Technology is an innovative digital solution designed to eliminate unwanted mail at its source, significantly reducing the volume of non-essential mail entering the Department of Defense. This results in far less mail handled by departmental administrators, mail operations, custodial staff, and even individual recipients. By empowering users across the DoD to digitally notify senders to opt out of future mailings, the system saves time, reduces labor and transportation costs, cuts disposal expenses, and supports zero-waste goals.
The solution has been successfully piloted at five U.S. Air Force bases and within the U.S. Department of State (SA-32 and HST), where it demonstrated substantial reductions in mail waste while freeing up valuable personnel for higher-priority work. The Department of State has formally integrated WFM OptOut into its operations. To date, the system has generated over $1.6 million in productivity and shipping savings—and that number continues to grow each day.
