Welcome to the Technical Exchange Meeting (TEM)!
eLxr Pro is a commercially supported enterprise Linux offering based on the community-driven Debian derivative eLxr Project, to drive rapid innovation at the intelligent edge bridging the embedded and enterprise use cases with a robust, reliable, right-sized, real time, and resilient approach.
Based on the open-source eLxr Project, Wind River proudly introduces eLxr Pro, providing customers with long-term commercial support and professional services. Designed to be 100% bug-for-bug compatible with the always free community version. The core operating system software will always be open by license, and free to use. Our added value lies in providing enterprise-level long-term support and maintenance, security certifications and compliance (such as FIPS 140-3 and STIG), and adaptability for various application use cases. We offer seamless integration with our Wind River product portfolio, including HVP (Helix Virtualization Platform) and Studio Operator, and additional professional services for custom optimizations, training, and migration.
The increasing connectivity demands of edge deployments, including over-the-air updates and new technologies like data aggregation, edge processing, predictive maintenance, and machine learning, require a new architectural approach for both edge devices and servers. This has led to a complex, heterogeneous landscape with multiple distributions, increasing complexity and costs due to monitoring for vulnerabilities, managing diverse software bill of materials (SBOMs), and varying update schedules. To address these challenges, the eLxr project has been introduced as a Debian derivative. It uses modern tools to simplify maintenance, combining traditional installers with new distribution-to-order tools. This approach enables a single distribution to support both edge and server deployments more effectively. By providing a unified tech stack, eLxr offers enterprises a strategic advantage in optimizing edge deployments, creating a seamless operating environment, and laying the groundwork for future edge-to-cloud innovations.
As a distribution partner, eLxr bridges the gap for open-source communities and technology companies with innovative solutions but lacking widespread distribution means. This project accelerates innovation and technology adoption at a pace that meets user demands.
eLxr provides a homogeneous operating system solution from edge to core that:
— Caters to applications with stringent timing requirements.
— Relies on a smaller footprint for better performance, optimized workloads, and smaller attack surface.
— Includes built-in security features and dedicated hardware features that include secure boot, Trusted Platform Module (TPM), cryptographic engines, and more.
— Offers a long-term lower cost for users
